Leeds 8/5 to beat Stoke in Sundays Championship clash

After bringing in former Napoli and Argentina manager Marcelo Bielsa, many around Elland Road are excited by the new Championship campaign and will fancy their chances of carrying on an impressive pre-season when they play host to a Stoke side drastically short of form.

Starting with the hosts on Sunday, although they could only secure a mid-table finish last season, after bringing in the likes of Patrick Bamford, many have Leeds tipped as an early contender. In their 46 Championship games last season, The Whites won 17, drew nine and lost 20, scoring 59 and conceding 64 in return. Ending the year in 13th position, Leeds were also 15 points adrift of the playoffs. However, along with bringing new faces to Elland Road and an incredibly experienced manager in Marcelo Bielsa, the hosts only lost one of their six pre-season matches and have also now scored eight in their last three. Given the gulf in form between the two sides, we’re backing Leeds to come away with the win on Sunday.

As for the visitors, while many expected Stoke to be a leading contender in their first season in the Championship in a decade, The Potters have been drastically short of form under new boss Gary Rowett. Eventually finishing second from bottom in the Premier League last season, in their 38 games Stoke won just seven, drew 12 and lost 19, scoring 25 and conceding 68 in return, they held the joint-worst defensive record in the division. Dragging their poor form into the new season, on their tour of Austria and Germany, The Potters won none of their five matches, losing four and drawing one. More worrying for Rowett’s side, Stoke only scored once in those five outings.
