Looking to avoid joining the list of Premier League sides to crash out in the third round of this year’s FA Cup, Southampton will welcome Derby to St. Mary’s on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, despite a worrying start in their Premier League campaign, Southampton have shown plenty of improvements since bringing in Ralph Hasenhüttl. In their 22 league games this season, the White and Reds have won four, drawn seven and lost 11, scoring 23 and conceding 39 in return. Now holding a points tally of 19, the Saints currently hold a five-point buffer over the relegation zone. As for their recent run of form, Southampton are now unbeaten in their last three matches across all competitions. While they have now scored in six of their last seven, they have recorded just one clean sheet in their last 10 outings.

As for the visitors, while Derby might have enjoyed an impressive start to their Championship campaign, Frank Lampard’s side have struggled with their form entering the New Year. In their 27 league games this season, they have won 12, drawn seven and lost eight, scoring 38 and conceding 34 in return. With a points tally of 43, they hold just a two-point buffer from slipping out of the playoff positions. As for their recent run of form, the Rams have won just one of their last seven matches across all competitions and haven’t recorded a clean sheet in their last six.
