Will Southampton’s Luke Shaw make the England squad?
Competition: Premier League
Market: Luke Shaw to make England’s 2014 World Cup squad
Odds: 9/4 @ Bet 365
With England manager Roy Hodgson giving Southampton left-back Luke Shaw 45 minutes to showcase his ability, the early indications are all pointing towards the 18-year old making the 23-man squad for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
Baines is a shoo-in to make the England squad, but Shaw is directly competing with Chelsea’s Ashley Cole for the cover spot. However, with Cole having made just three league starts since November, Shaw is currently in the driving seat.
Bet 365 are giving odds of 9/4 for Shaw to make England’s 2014 World Cup squad, and with 25 appearances under his belt for the Saints this season, Hodgson can hardly overlook him.
The 18-year old has put in performances that belie his young age, and looks like he could play an important part of the World Cup campaign given the chance. He’s highly-rated among his peers, and Hodgson has been to St Mary’s to see him and others in action this season.
He impressed against Denmark tonight, and there will be little doubt Shaw has given himself every opportunity to make the World Cup squad for this summer’s prestigious tournament.
