Looking to extend their buffer in the top-six and continue on a remarkable run of form, Western United will face off against a struggling Sydney FC on Saturday morning.

Starting with Sydney FC, while the Blues might have lifted the A-League title with time to spare this season, they have endured what has been a worrying end to this year’s campaign. In their 25 top-flight matches this year, they have recorded 16 wins, five draws, and four defeats, scoring 48 and conceding 23 in return. Collecting 53 points this season, Sydney holds a nine-point buffer at the top of the table entering their season finale this weekend. However, despite confirming another campaign in the AFC Champions League for next year, the Blues have failed to win any of their last four A-League contests on the bounce, their worst run of the season so far. Even more concerning for the hosts, the Blues have managed to win just a pair of their last 10 contests across all competitions.

As for the Western United, continuing on what has been a stunning end to this year’s extended campaign, they have skyrocketed themselves back into the top-six. In their 24 A-League matchups this year, they have recorded 11 wins, three draws and 10 defeats, scoring 43 and conceding 33 in return. With a points tally of 36, United open the weekend fixtures with their goal difference keeping them in the Final Series spots. However, it should also be noted that the A-League high-flyers hold two games in hand over the teams around them. As for their recent run of results, Western United have secured back-to-back victories and have also won five of their last six top-flight contests. Enjoying by far their best run of the season so far, it is also worth highlighting that Saturday’s guests have recorded over 1.5 goals in each of their last five victories.
