Could West Brom do the double over Manchester United?

Posted March 4th, 2014 | By: Crippy Cooke

Competition: Premier League
Market: West Brom to beat Man Utd
Odds: 7/2 @ Coral

After West Bromwich Albion beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford earlier on in the season, they are in an unprecedented position of being 90 minutes away from doing the double over the Premier League holders for the first time since 1980.

The two sides meet on Saturday, with Coral giving odds of 7/2 for Baggies to end a 24-year wait to beat the Lancashire outfit in both home & away fixtures.

They are in desperate need of a win too. New manager Pepe Mel is still waiting for his first win in charge, and the Midlands outfit have won just once in their previous 17 league outings. Their inability to finish teams off when locked in a stalemate is the reason why many believe this could be the end of West Brom’s time in the Premier League, but a win against Manchester United would quell the fears temporarily.

United come into the game nursing European wounds after being beaten 2-0 by Olympiakos in the Champions League knockouts. Their league form is better – taking 5 points from their last three games – but they are certainly vulnerable.

One positive for their opponents West Brom is that do have home advantage, and it’s worth noting only four sides from the 14 they’ve faced at the Hawthorns have taken all three points this season.
