In what is a hugely important showdown at the foot of Group D in midweek, Scotland will host Croatia at Hampden on Tuesday night in a matchup that could be another low-scoring affair.

Starting with Croatia, while The Blazers might have managed to come from behind and snatch a point over the weekend, they have struggled to find much form since opening this summer’s delayed European Championships. Suffering a 1-0 loss against hosts England in their opening Group D contest, the 2018 World Cup finalists find only their goal difference keeping them in that lucrative third spot. However, along with putting in a pair of sluggish displays when opening their summer adventure earlier in the month, Croatia have shown a host of issues over the past three years. Failing to win any of their last four matchups after their two pre-tournament friendlies, the midweek guests have also won just a pair of their previous 11 straight contests, a run that stems back to October. It’s also worth highlighting that Croatia have seen six of their last seven fixtures finish with under 2.5 goals.

As for Scotland, putting in what was a hugely impressive display against bitter British rivals England over the weekend, The Blues still hold a real chance of booking their spot in the knockout stage. Bouncing back from that opening Group D 2-0 loss against the Czech Republic on home soil, Steve Clarke’s side landed an eye-catching 0-0 stalemate against The Whites last time out. In fact, aside from that opening weekend defeat in Glasgow, Scotland are unbeaten in each of their other six previous matchups across all formats. Also playing out an action-packed draw against former European champions Holland in a pre-tournament friendly, The Scots will fancy their chances of springing an upset. However, it should be highlighted, with the midweek hosts yet to record a single strike during their Group D run, we’re backing another low-scoring encounter at Hampden.
