In a contest between two sides battling it out at the foot of the Premier Division standings, Cork City will host Sligo Rovers from behind closed doors on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, despite their recent success in this year’s domestic tournaments, Cork City have endured a worrying start to the 2020 campaign. In their opening seven top-flight matches this season, they have recorded just a single win, one draw and five defeats, scoring just one and conceding 12 in return. Along with collecting just four points out of a possible 21, it is no surprise that Cork hold the worst attacking record in the division so far. As for their recent run of results, Friday’s hosts have collected just a single point over their last three top-flight contests and have failed to record a single strike in any of those three appearances. It is also worth highlighting, along with their last three Premier Division matchups seeing under 2.5 goals by full-time, six of their last seven matches across all formats have finished in an identical scoreline.

As for the visitors, showing some much-needed signs of life, Sligo Rovers have their sights firmly set on building off of those results and finding a route away from the drop zone. In their opening six matchups this season, they have recorded a pair of wins against four defeats, scoring six and conceding nine in return. Collecting a points tally of six out of a possible 18, they open Friday’s fixtures sat in eighth and holding just a two-point buffer from slipping into the drop zone. As for their previous run of results, however, Sligo have secured back-to-back Premier Division victories against Derry City and Shelbourne. It should be noted though, each of Sligo’s three top-flight away fixtures so far this season have seen under 2.5 goals by the final whistle.
