Sunderland have a huge opportunity to boost their Premier League survival hopes when they face West Ham United this evening. The Black Cats are being given odds of 5/4 to get all three points against the Hammers, knowing that a win will see them just one point from safety with a game in hand.

Gus Poyet’s men currently find themselves in 19th place, with 25 points in 29 games. They are winless in their last five games, but were in better display in their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.

The two sides drew 0-0 in their earlier meeting at Upton Park this season, but this is a game the North-East outfit can ill-afford to lose with their survival aspirations wearing thin with just a few games of their season left.

West Ham will be a tricky opponent as they have won five of their last eight league games. Their last game, a 2-1 win against Hull, ended with a chorus of boos around the ground aimed at the manager Sam Allardyce as well as the players for a miserable performance, despite the victory.

There could well be tension coming into tonight’s clash that Sunderland will hope to take advantage of.
