Roberto Di Matteo’s Schalke side travel to face Paderborn this evening, knowing a win could see them in to the top-three of the German Bundesliga depending on the results of sides around them in the table. Schalke had won three on the bounce prior to their home defeat against FC Cologne, and their away form doesn’t give them too much confidence on the road either.

But Paderborn have been far from convincing of late, and are currently on a five-game winless run in the league. Schalke know they cannot afford to drop any more points, as they need to seize opportunities to push for a top-three place when the opportunity is there.

Di Matteo’s arrival has seen some decent results come in, but consistency is key. Schalke have lost games against inferior opposition, and they will be hoping tonight won’t see the same outcome. 888 Sport are giving odds of 6/4 for the Blues to get all three points against Paderborn, despite their poor away form, as the need to maintain ground on the sides above is motivation enough to get them up the table.
