Reading 4/9 to appoint Steve Clarke as their new manager
Market: Reading to appoint Steve Clarke as manager
Odds: 4/9 @ Betfair
Following the sacking of manager Nigel Adkins after Reading’s 6-1 defeat to Birmingham City on the weekend, all talk has been on who will be the 49-year-old’s successor. Reading are currently sitting in 16th place in the Championship, with the Royals having lost a staggering seven games from 11.
As a result of their plight, Reading are looking for an experienced coach, who has been in the game a long enough time to turn their fortunes around, and former West Brom manager Steve Clarke is in the reckoning.
The 51-year-old has been an assistant manager with Newcastle, West Ham, Liverpool and Chelsea, while leading West Brom to a record-high Premier League finish in his first season with the Baggies. He’s highly-regarded in football, but is competing with some other respected coaches for the job.
Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen and ex-Norwich City manager Chris Hughton have been linked for the job, but Clarke is being backed by Betfair with odds of 4/9 to be appointed as Nigel Adkins’ successor.
