Portsmouth 17/20 to beat Oxford in Sundays League One battle
Competition: League One
Market: Portsmouth to beat Oxford
Odds: 17/20 @ Bet365
With the League One table reaching the business end of the season, English football’s third tier remains incredibly tight at both ends of the table with just a single point seeing a team jump several places. On that note, playoff hopefuls Portsmouth will welcome Oxford to Fratton Park.
For the hosts on Sunday afternoon, after being promoted from League Two as champions last season, Portsmouth still remain outside favorites to secure a playoff spot come the end of the season. After 37 matches this year, Portsmouth have won 16, drawn four and lost 17, scoring 45 and conceded 47 in return. With a points tally of 52, Portsmouth currently sit eighth in the League One table and are now chasing down a five-point deficit to sixth place Plymouth Argyle. If Portsmouth want to mount a late push for the playoff positions, they will have to start picking up points immediately. Portsmouth have recorded just two wins in their last five outings, but it will be their home form they must improve on as of Sunday, Pompey have not won in their last seven home matches.
As for the visitors, Oxford have turned to former Charlton and MK Dons manager Karl Robinson to help turn their season around. After 36 League One matchups, Oxford have recorded 12 wins, nine draws and 15 defeats, scoring 52 and conceding 54. With a points tally of 45, Oxford currently sit 16th in the table, however, while they may hold a seven-point buffer over the drop zone, Oxford are now 12 points away from the playoffs and another season in League One appears to be on the cards. With Robinson looking to secure a top half finish, Oxford will need to improve on their recent results. Oxford have recorded just one win in their last seven matches, losing five and drawing one. Oxford have also only kept one clean sheet in their last 12 appearances.
