Looking to put together their final preparations before heading to Russia for the World Cup finals, Peru will welcome Scotland to Estadio Nacional de Lima on Wednesday.

For the hosts on Wednesday, after successfully coming past New Zealand over two legs in their World Cup playoff, Peru will head to Russia in Group C with France, Australia and Denmark. During their 18 matches in the South American qualifying campaign, Peru won seven, drew five and lost six, scoring 27 and conceding 26 in return, Peru secured fifth spot with a two-goal advantage over Chile. As for their recent form, The Reds have continued to impress and are now on a 12 match unbeaten run, winning eight and drawing four. Along with scoring seven in their last three and conceding just one in their last four, Peru have only lost one home match since June 2016.

As for the visitors, despite an impressive run during the second half of their qualifying campaign, Scotland were once again unable to secure their spot at another World Cup finals. During their 10 matches in Group F, Scotland won five, drew three, and lost two, scoring 17 and conceding 12 in return, Scotland’s defensive record saw Slovakia clinch second spot. Turning to former manager Alex McLeish to help guide them to their first major tournament in 30 years, Scotland have now picked up two wins in their last five, drawing one and losing two. Scotland’s hopes of pulling off an upset victory will also not be helped by several senior players withdrawing from the squad and leaving McLeish with the most inexperienced squad in recent memory.
