Two teams that are looking to put together their final preparations before traveling to Russia this summer, on Saturday Sweden will welcome Peru to the Friends Arena.
For the hosts on Saturday, although Sweden were unable to top Group A in qualifying, The Yellows pulled off a historic 1-0 win over Italy in the playoffs and booked their place in Russia in a group with Germany, Mexico and South Korea. In their 10 qualifying games, Sweden won six, drew one and lost three, scoring 26 and conceding nine in return, while they did finish four points adrift of France at the top of the table, Sweden finished with the best-attacking record in Group A, something that helped them see of Holland for the playoff spot. However, their form of late will be of concern to the hosts, in their five friendlies, Sweden have recorded just one win and have also failed to find the net in their last two.
As for the visitors, although Peru may have started slow in the South American qualifying campaign, the Reds battled back and have enjoyed a stellar run of form entering this summers World Cup. After 18 qualifying matches, Peru won seven, drew five, and lost six, scoring 27 and conceding 26 in return, The Reds finished with the third best-attacking stats in the group stage. Finishing with a points tally of 26, Peru’s goal difference saw them clinch fifth spot and the final playoff position. Coming past New Zealand to book their spot in Russia, Peru are now unbeaten in their last 14 matches in all competitions and have won ten of those 14. Along with winning their last five matches on the bounce, Peru have also kept a clean sheet in four of those victories.
