In what could prove to be another lively contest on the Premier League’s return this weekend, Newcastle will host Manchester United on Saturday night.

Starting with the hosts, aside from their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton last month, it has been an eye-catching start to proceedings for Newcastle this season. In their opening four Premier League matchups so far this year, they have recorded two wins, one draw and one defeat, scoring six and conceding five in return. Collecting a points tally of seven out of a possible 12, they mark their return from the enforced break sat in ninth and holding a four-point buffer over Saturday’s guests. As for their recent run of results, the Magpies are unbeaten in their last four matchups across all competitions, winning three of those appearances. Losing just one of their seven competitive contests this year, it should also be noted that Newcastle’s back-to-back contests on home soil have seen over 2.5 goals by the final whistle.

As for the visitors, while Manchester United might have managed to extend on their EFL Cup adventure this season, they are in the midst of a worrying spell. In their opening three Premier League matchups so far this year, they have recorded just a sole win against two defeats, scoring five and shipping 11 in return. Collecting just a points tally of three out of a possible nine, the former champions mark their return to action sat all the way down in 16th and remarkably holding the joint-second worst defensive record in the division. As for their recent run of results, hit with an abysmal 6-1 defeat against Tottenham before heading into the international break, Manchester United have conceded over 1.5 goals in all three of their Premier League matchups so far. It should also be noted that all five of their competitive matchups this season have seen over 2.5 goals by full-time.
