Scottish Premier League champions Celtic travel to face Norwegian outfit Molde in their third Europa League group game of the season, and are desperate to finally pick up their first win of the campaign to go top of the pack at the mid-point. Molde, however, aren’t to be underestimated given the hosts are leading the way in Group A, so Celtic could be in for a tricky afternoon.
While Molde have enjoyed a fantastic start in Europe, picking up four points from their two group games so far, the Norwegian outfit have struggled considerably in their domestic league. Molde are seventh in the Tippeligaen as things stand, but have been much-improved formwise in recent weeks.
On home soil, they’re difficult to beat, and their opponents Celtic have been far from convincing, so Thursday’s clash is a tough one to call. It’s a game both sides will fancy their chances, but also a game where neither will want to risk losing by playing too open. Recipe for a stalemate potentially, which isn’t ideal for Celtic.
The Scottish side have drawn 2-2 in both their Europa League group games ahead of this week’s clash, but their form in the domestic league may give them confidence of winning on the road. Three wins from their last four Scottish Premier League games sees Celtic in decent enough form to give Molde something to worry about, but the Bhoys have struggled in Europe under manager Ronny Deila.
Celtic really need to win to kickstart their campaign in the group, while a draw wouldn’t be the worst result for Molde even at home. It means the Norwegians are sure to make life difficult for the visitors.
