Middlesbrough 6/4 to earn promotion to the Premier League this season
Market: Middlesbrough to earn promotion
Odds: 6/4 @ Betfair
Surprise-package Middlesbrough are third in the Championship table after 17 games this season. The North-East outfit started the campaign very slowly, losing three of their first five games, which saw manager Aitor Karanka under intense pressure. But Boro have turned their fortunes around since August, and have only lost one league game in the last three months.
Middlesbrough are now habouring hopes of earning promotion back to the Premier League, with 2008/09 being the last time Boro were in the top flight. They suffered relegation that campaign, and have since spent the last five-and-a-half seasons in the second tier of English football, but Betfair are giving odds of 6/4 for Middlesbrough to earn promotion from the Championship this season.
A top-two finish will ensure automatic promotion, while 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th will mean playoffs. They will have stiff competition to finish in 1st or 2nd, however. Derby County are the league leaders and show no signs of slowing down, while AFC Bournemouth are currently in a lofty 2nd place in the Championship.
