Middlesbrough 13/8 to beat Preston in Tuesdays EFL Cup matchup
Competition: EFL Cup
Market: Middlesbrough win
Odds: 13/8 @ Bet 365
Two sides who have endured very different starts to the new Championship campaign, Middlesbrough will look to book their spot in the fourth round of the EFL Cup when they travel to Deepdale on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, although many at Preston had hoped for a top half finish this season, it has been a very difficult start to the new Championship campaign. In their opening nine matches, they have managed to pick up just oen win, two draws and six defeats, scoring nine and conceding 18 in return, they now hold the worst defensive record in the Championship. As for their recent form, while they did manage to knock Leeds out in the third round, Preston have failed to win any of their last four matches, also losing their last three on the bounce. The hosts have also conceded three goals in each of their defeats.
As for the visitors, tipped by many to bounce back to the Premier League this year, it has been an impressive start to the new campaign for Middlesbrough. In their opening nine Championship matches, the Reds have won five, drawn three and lost one, scoring 11 and conceding just three, they hold the best defensive record in the division. With just their goal difference keeping them off top spot, they hold also now kept a clean sheet in three of their last four matches away from home. Given the gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing Boro to come away with the win on Tuesday.
