Recent reports have emerged that manager Jose Mourinho is on the brink of taking over at Manchester United ahead of the 2016/17 season. The Portuguese coach is alleged to have told friends of the impending appointment, which will see incumbent Louis van Gaal removed from his position at the end of the current campaign.

With Manchester United having endured a testing second season under Van Gaal, coupled with the news that Pep Guardiola will be Manchester City manager in the summer, the Red Devils’ hierarchy are looking to respond with a big-name coaching appointment of their own to try and finally challenge at the top.

Jose Mourinho won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2015, but was sacked by Blues owner Roman Abramovich following a woeful title defence. He’s remained in England and admitted he wants another job in the Premier League. The 53-year-old has long wanted to be at Manchester United, and various sources are reporting that the move is pending.
