Italy and Republic of Ireland 21/10 to draw tonight’s Euro 2016 clash
Competition: Euro 2016
Market: Italy and Rep of Ireland to draw
Odds: 21/10 @ William Hill
Italy lock horns with the Republic of Ireland at the Grand Stade Lille Métropole in tonight’s Euro 2016 Group E clash, in a game that could prove to be an anti-climax given Italy need only a point to progress into the last-16 as group winners.
The Republic of Ireland need a win at the bare minimum to book their place in the knockout round of the European Championships, but the goal-shy strugglers are coming up against a side yet to concede a goal in the tournament.
Italy are currently top of Group E with six points from their first two games. The Azzurri have scored three goals without reply, but they are expected to make changes to the side ahead of their Ireland meeting to afford players a much-needed rest, while protecting those on a yellow card.
As a result, the ones selected tonight will be tasked with the job to grind out a goalless draw to progress, meaning Ireland could really struggle to break them down. ROI are propping up Group E with just one point from a possible six, scoring only one goal and conceded four.
The game plan will be to keep Italy at bay for the first-half onwards, while trying to nick a goal without leaving themselves too open for a counter attack. However, Italy’s defence is likely to frustrate Ireland, and William Hill are giving odds of 21/10 for the two sides to play out a stalemate at the Grand Stade Lille Métropole.
