International football is back this weekend with some very interesting games to come. While a lot of fans are left discontented with the lack of club football, this round of games could be very exciting, with a number of sides battling for a place in the next World Cup. Two sides that agonisingly missed out were Scotland and Holland, and the two meet on Thursday evening in a friendly.
For Scotland, it was a heartbreaking campaign as their late resurgence still culminated in their failure to reach the World Cup. Three wins in their last five games along with two draws was not enough to overturn their poor form at the start of the campaign. They ended on 18 points, eight short of England, and it was a similar story for the Scots in the end. While there is definitely cause for optimism amongst the team and fans, they must find a way to press on in their qualification next time and make it to a major tournament.
For Holland, it was an incredibly poor campaign. France finished top of the group with 23 points, while Sweden finished in second with 19, the same as the Dutch. What saw the Netherlands fail to secure a play-off was their poor goal difference, as they had scored 21 goals and conceded 12, while Sweden had netted 26 times and were only breached nine times. Their failure to qualify for the World Cup should serve as a wakeup call for Holland, as their late run of form was not enough to make up for their awful displays earlier on. While the Dutch failed to qualify for the World Cup, they are still a very good side, and we are backing them with odds of 11/10 from Bet365.
