Looking to make a statement in their opening matchup in Group C, overwhelming favorites France will face off against Australia at the Kazan’ Arena on Saturday morning.
For France, after dominating in Group A during qualifying, The Blues only lost one of their 10 outings and boasted the best defensive record in Group A. Carrying on their impressive form during their build-up, France are now unbeaten in their last four and have only lost one of their last 12 in all competitions. Sharing a group with Australia, Denmark and Peru, Didier Deschamps side are an overwhelming favorite to qualify as top of the Group C and they hold a stellar recent record in front of goal, France have now scored two or more goals in five of their last six.
As for Australia, although their goal difference saw them miss out on automatic qualification to the finals, Australia outclassed Honduras in the final playoff matchup and will enter the tournament filled with confidence. While The Yellows have now only lost one of their last nine in all competitions, Australia do have a tendency to concede goals and have now recorded just three clean sheets in their last 19 and it appears they could struggle against a very strong France side. The last time these two sides met was in an international friendly in 2013, Australia came away on the wrong end of a 6-0 defeat.
