The international fixtures return for another week as club football is forced to one side. Club football does bring a level of excitement that many feel the international games do not match, but this week sees a number of top teams playing against very good opponents in conjunction with the World Cup playoffs. On Friday, France host Wales in what could be a very interesting game.
France struggled in Group A as they dropped seven points across their qualifying campaign. The side that many tip to win the World Cup soon won seven times, lost one and drew twice, meaning they only finished four points above second-placed Sweden. Interestingly, for all of France’s attacking players, they only found the back of the net 18 times, whereas Sweden hit 26 goals and the Dutch scored 21 times. However, the nation, on the whole, will not be too worried as they will hope their young and exciting team are saving their very best for the showpiece event next year.
For Wales, it was a hugely disappointing campaign. Four wins and one defeat is not is not a bad record, but where they failed was in the amount they drew, as they struggled to five draws. The Euro 2016 semi-finalists crashed out of their group after losing their winner takes all game with the Republic of Ireland in Cardiff. With this failure in mind, the Welsh will be desperate to put their disappointment behind them, but we are backing the French to win, and Bet365 have given them odds of 2/7 to win this one.
