Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has enjoyed fantastic form in the Premier League this season, but his Toffees side are underachieving in 10th place which could make him a target for long-time suitors Manchester City when the January transfer window finally opens.

The England international, 22, has been linked with the Sky Blues among others in the past, but Everton have been very keen to keep the academy starlet at Goodison Park. However, they could struggle to keep Barkley’s feet on the ground given their lukewarm start to the new season.

After finishing in a disappointing 11th place, Everton are mid-table currently, and Barkley will perhaps feel a player of his ability should be playing for a side in a more lofty position. City have been very keen to sign homegrown talent too, evident from the signings of former Liverpool star Raheem Sterling and ex-Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph.

As a result, Ross Barkley is being given odds of 11/5 by 888 Sport to sign for Manchester City in January. With the European Championships in the summer, his stock will rise if he’s playing at a side like City.
