Everton defender John Stones has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, with the England international having been the subject of a bid from the Premier League champions ahead of the new season. Stones enjoyed an impressive breakthrough with the Toffees, and is expected to play an even bigger role in the defence as a result of the departure of veteran Sylvain Distin.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is looking for a long-term replacement for John Terry, and publicly admitted an interest to sign Stones. The Blues already made a £20M bid, but had their offer quickly turned down. And while the Londoners’ head coach played down talk of an improved bid, Chelsea are expected to come in with a higher offer.

Kurt Zouma has shown promise as their No.3 centre-back in the last year, but Mourinho wants a homegrown talent with more experience, and Stones fits the bill perfectly as a ball-playing centre-back like the likes of existing star Gary Cahill As a result, Betfair are giving odds of 4/9 for 21-year-old to make the switch to Stamford Bridge this summer to join the champions.
