Everton defender John Stones has been linked with an exit from Goodison Park all season, with Chelsea having bids rejected for his services early into the season. However, Manchester City have entered the race for his signature as a result of a change in transfer policy.

Prospective manager Pep Guardiola has been juggling the demands of his current job at Bayern Munich as well as planning with City for the 2016/17 season. He’s identified a need for defensive reinforcements for City next season, and is targeting a ball-player who is comfortable in possession.

The Sky Blues also need a homegrown option due to the lack of English players in the squad, and Everton’s John Stones fits the bill perfectly. The youngster has risen to prominence, but is coming under a lot of flak as Everton struggle for consistency in the Premier League.
