With Everton signing midfielder Gareth Barry, a player who helped protect the defence and aided the side in ball retention, the Toffees fancy their chances of somewhat replicating last season.

The Merseyside outfit finished in 5th place in 2013/14, above the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United, but they face a difficult task to repeat the feat.

However, 888 Sport are backing Everton with odds of 6/4 to finish next season in the prestigious European places, but it won’t be easy. They have Europa League to contend with in 2014/15, while they are still yet to seal their other transfer targets (Romelu Lukaku) and pre-season training has now begun.

Manager Roberto Martinez was lauded for how well his debut campaign went, as Everton pushed Arsenal right to the end in the fight for a Champions League place in the table, but next season will be harder as Manchester United and Tottenham are both expected to be much stronger this time out.
