Everton welcome Sunderland to Goodison Park in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, and are big favourites to come out on top given the gulf in class between the two sides and the poor form of the visitors. Everton are struggling of late too but will fancy their chances against a Championship outfit who can’t buy a win of late.

Ronald Koeman’s Everton side are coming off the back of four consecutive defeats against Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Atalanta and Manchester United, failing to score in any game. The Toffees have been more convincing on home soil, however, winning three of their last five against Ružomberok, Stoke City and Hajduk Split without conceding.

As for the visitors, Simon Grayson’s Sunderland side have suffered three defeats from their last four games in all competitions against Barnsley, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest, drawing with Hull City. The Black Cats have failed to win three of their last four away games ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash, and William Hill are giving odds of 4/11 for Everton to win against Sunderland
