With Derby County having missed out on promotion from the Championship last season, the Rams are determined to go one better this time around. Steve McClaren’s side finished third in the league in 2013/14, but fell short in the playoffs, cruelly losing in the final to Queens Park Rangers.

But the Midlands side are being backed by Ladbrokes with odds of 13/15 to finally get themselves back into the top flight of English football. They’ve retained the key players to last season’s success, with Will Hughes, Craig Bryson, Jake Buxton, Craig Forsyth, Chris Martin all still at the iPro stadium for the new campaign.

McClaren wants to remain at the club and lead them to glory, so there’s every reason to believe Derby can have another strong season and push for the automatic promotion places. After last season’s heartbreak, they won’t want to finish in the playoffs if they can help it, so it’s vital Derby start the campaign in good form.
