Looking to put together their final preparations before traveling to Russia for this summers World Cup Finals, on Friday Australia will travel to the Generali Arena to face off against the Czech Republic.
For the hosts on Friday, after being unable to find any sort of stability during the World Cup qualifiers, a third-place finish in Group C meant that the Czech Republic will not be traveling to Russia this summer. After 10 games in Group C, the hosts won four, drew three and lost three, scoring 17 and conceding 10 in return, finishing with a points tally of 15, the Czech Republic fell behind both defending Champions Germany and Northern Ireland. As for their recent form, the Czech’s have shown some signs of improvements, finishing third in the China Cup, the hosts have now won five of their last six and in those five victories they have scored 14 goals.
As for the visitors, although Australia may not have secured their spot automatically via the Asian qualifying campaign, Australia booked their spot in Russia thanks to the playoffs. After 10 qualifying games in Group B, Australia won five, drew four and lost one, scoring 16 and conceding 11 in return, Australia’s goal difference saw them finish in third behind Japan and Saudi Arabia. Coming past Syria over two legs, Australia have now been placed in a group with Denmark, France and Peru. As for their recent form, Australia have now lost just one of their last seven, winning three and drawing three.
