Columbus Crew 19/20 to beat DC United in Thursday’s MLS contest

Posted August 3rd, 2021 | By: Tom Dunstan

Competition: MLS

Market: Columbus Crew win

Odds: 19/20 @ 888sport

Glad to make a return to home soil in the early hours of Thursday, Columbus Crew will host DC United when the midweek MLS fixtures open up.

Starting with the hosts, putting in what was a dreadful display last time out, there is no doubt that Columbus will be desperate to prove that was just a minor blip. In their 16 MLS matchups so far this season, they have recorded six wins, six draws and four defeats, scoring 17 and conceding 16 in return. Managing to muster themselves a points tally of 24, The Crew open the midweek fixtures sat sixth in the Eastern Conference and holding a three-point buffer from dropping out of the Final Series places. As for their recent run of results, last seen getting hit with a drumming away at New York City, that defeat brought an end to Columbus’ six-match unbeaten run. However, it should be noted, Thursday’s hosts are yet to taste defeat on home soil since opening the 2021 MLS campaign.

As for the visitors, while DC United might have their sights set on finding a route into the Final Series places, they have gained a reputation for their extended issues on the road. In their 16 MLS matchups so far this season, they have recorded six wins, three draws and seven defeats, scoring 21 and conceding 18 in return. Managing to muster a points tally of 21, they open the midweek fixtures sat eigth in the Eastern Conference and just a single point adrift of breaking into the top-seven. As for their recent run of results, last seen playing out a 0-0 stalemate against Cincinnati on the road, DC United have managed to win just a pair of their last seven MLS contests. However, it should be noted, Thursday’s guests have failed to win any of their last five straight fixtures on the road and they also have just a single away win since opening the 2021 campaign.
