Looking to once again book their spot in the Champions League for another year, defending Scottish title winners Celtic will head to Armenia to face off against Alashkert on Tuesday evening. Given the gulf in class between the two sides, it is no surprise that we’re backing the Scots to come away with a hefty advantage.
Starting with the hosts, while they might be a clear underdog on Tuesday, Alashkert did enjoy another successful year in Armenia and captured their third league title. In their 30 domestic matchups, the hosts won 14, drew eight and lost eight, scoring 44 and conceding 31 in return, they did also finish the season with both the best attacking and defensive record in the division. However, at the back end of the season and in their international friendlies, Alashkert have begun to struggle, the hosts have now only won one of their last seven, drawing five and losing one.
As for the visitors, it was yet another stellar domestic year for the Scotish champions. Winning all three domestic titles for the second year on the bounce, The Hoops will travel to Armenia as an overwhelming favorite. After 38 games in the Scotish Premiership, Celtic won 24, drew 10 and lost four, scoring 73 and conceding 25 in return, they finished with the best defensive record in the division. As for their recent form, Celtic have now won four of their last five in all competitions and in all of their victories the visitors have kept a clean sheet.
