Brentford 6/5 to beat Southend in Tuesdays EFL matchup

After enjoying a solid start to the new Championship campaign and tipped for a playoff spot come next year, Brentford will travel to Roots Hall on Tuesday night looking to mount an EFL Cup run.

Starting with the hosts on Tuesday, while Southend may have landed a top half finish last season, it has been a tricky start to the new campaign for The Shrimpers. Losing 3-2 at home to Doncaster on the opening weekend, followed by a 1-1 draw with Plymouth, Southend appears to be paying the price of an incredibly short pre-season. Playing just two friendly matches and drawing both, the hosts are now without a win in their last five outings. It will be their defensive record Chris Powell should be most concerned with, Southend have now shipped seven in their last four and will struggle against a high-flying Brentford side.

As for the visitors, after a summer of ins and outs, many have Dean Smith’s Brentford tipped as a playoff contender in the Championship. Enjoying an impressive pre-season that saw them only lose to Premier League side Watford, The Bees have carried on their form entering the new season. Putting five past Rotherham in their opening matchup, followed by a 1-1 draw with bookies favorites Stoke, a game where they dominated most the play, Brentford currently sit fourth in the Championship and will be looking to keep up their early season pace.
