Hoping to move one step closer to securing a top-two finish this season, Wellington Phoenix and the Western Sydney Wanderers will face off on Friday morning.

Starting with Western Sydney, still struggling to pick up maximum points at the back end of the season, they still find themselves battling it out at the foot of the A-League standings. In their 22 top-flight matches this year, they have recorded seven wins, six draws, and nine defeats, scoring 28 and conceding 31 in return. With a points tally of 27, they open Friday’s fixtures sat down in ninth and four points adrift of breaking into the top-six. As for their previous run of results, Western Sydney have failed to win any of their last four A-League matchups and have now drawn their last three contests on the bounce. It should also be noted along with each of their last four matchups seeing both teams find the net by full-time, six of their last seven outings have finished in a similar outcome.

As for Wellington, while they too might be struggling to find their consistency, they still find themselves sat in pole position to secure a spot in next year’s AFC Champions League. In their 23 A-League matches this season, they have recorded 12 wins, four draws, and seven defeats, scoring 37 and conceding 28 in return. Along with their goal difference keeping them in that lucrative second-spot, it should also be noted that the Yellow and Blacks hold the third-best attacking record in the division. As for their recent run of results, Wellington have won just one of their last three A-League contests, collecting four points. it is also worth highlighting, that four of their last five contests have seen both teams find the net by the final whistle. In a contest that should produce a string of chances on Friday, we’re backing a similar outcome this week.
