In what should prove to be another lively contest on Thursday morning, the Newcastle Jets and Wellington Phoenix will face off from behind closed doors in midweek.

Starting with Newcastle, continuing on what has been an eye-catching end to this year’s A-League campaign, the Jets will be simply looking to sign off their season on a high. In their 25 contests this year, they have recorded eight wins, seven draws and 10 defeats, scoring 29 and conceding 40 in return. With a points tally of 31, they open the midweek fixtures sat in eighth and five points adrift of breaking into the top-six heading into their season finale. As for their previous run of results, Newcastle are unbeaten in their last four A-League contests, collecting three wins. Even more impressive, the Jets have lost just one of their last 11 domestic contests and have won their last three consecutive contests that they have been the hosts in on paper. It is also worth noting that seven of Newcastle’s last 10 A-League contests have finished in both teams finding the net.

As for the Phoenix, while Wellington might sit within striking distance of the top-two, it has been a sluggish end to the year for the Yellow and Blacks. In their 25 A-League contests this season, they have recorded 12 wins, five draws and eight defeats, scoring 38 and conceding 30 in return. With a points tally of 41 heading into their season finale in midweek, Wellington sit third in the table and three points adrift of climbing into the final AFC Champions League spot. As for their recent run of results, the Phoenix have failed to win any of their last three A-League contests and have also managed to win just one of their five matches since the restart. It is also worth noting, four of those five contests have finished with both teams finding the net by the final whistle.
