In a contest between two sides who are enjoying a real purple patch of late, Melbourne City will host Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday morning.

Starting with the hosts, despite what was a hugely worrying start to the 2021 campaign, Melbourne City find themselves enjoying a stunning run of form. In their opening 11 A-League contests so far this season, they have recorded seven wins against four defeats, scoring 22 and conceding 22 in return. Opening up this weekend’s fixtures holding a points tally of 21 and sat fourth in the table, The Blues also sit just a single point adrift of breaking into the AFC Champions League spots. As for their recent run of results, Melbourne City have won each of their last five straight A-League contests, recording at least a pair of strikes in each of those victories. It should also be noted that the title contenders have scored over 1.5 goals in four of their home fixtures since opening up the new campaign.

As for the visitors, really bouncing back from their sluggish start to March, Western Sydney Wanderers have managed to refind their feet in an eye-catching fashion. In their opening 13 A-League contests this season, they have recorded six wins, four draws and three defeats, scoring 21 and conceding 16 in return. Managing to muster themselves a points tally of 22, they open this weekend’s fixtures sat second in the table and just three points adrift of league leaders Central Coast Mariners. As for their recent run of results, last seen picking up a 3-0 win against Perth Glory, The Wanderers have won each of their last three A-League matchups on the bounce, scoring eight goals. With four of their six away fixtures so far this season finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome on Friday morning.
