In arguably the fieriest derby in the Championship, Aston Villa will welcome bitter-rivals Birmingham City to Villa Park on Sunday.
Starting with the hosts, despite a sluggish start to the season, Aston Villa are showing signs of improvements under Dean Smith. In their opening 17 games this season, they have won six, drawn six and lost five, scoring 27 and conceding 23 in return. The Villains also now hold the scond worst defensive record in the top half of the Championship table. With a points tally of 24, only the slightest of goal differences sees them sit above Birmingham. As for their recent run of form, while Villa have now won their last two on the bounce, they have conceded five in their last four matches at Villa Park.
As for the visitors, showing real signs of improvement prior to the international break, Birmingham have begun a surge up the Championship table. In their 17 games this season, they have won five, drawn nine and lost three, scoring 23 and conceding 20 in return. If results go there way this weekend, the Blues could climb as high as seventh. As for their recent run of form, they have now lost just one of their last 13 matches across all competitions and while they have not recorded a clean sheet in their last four, Birmingham have managed to find the net in their last nine matches on the bounce.
