Manchester United aren’t giving up their pursuit for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, as manager Louis van Gaal has targeted the commanding centre-back as a transfer priority this summer. The German international won the 2014 World Cup last summer, and endured a bittersweet season with Dortmund, which started poorly but ended on more of a high note in the division.

Jurgen Klopp resigned as manager of the Bundesliga side at the end of the season, which is expected to see an exodus during the transfer window, and Hummels is one player coveted by a host of teams in Europe. Manchester United are leading the race to sign the 26-year-old, but they do have competition from the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Nevertheless, United are chasing trophies next season, and are expected to spend big to achieve their goals. The Red Devils need to bolster their backline, midfield, and attack, and Hummels is high up on their shortlist. As a result, Ladbrokes are giving odds of 4/11 for the German centre-back to make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
