Market: Birmingham to beat Bolton

With the Championship table reaching the business end of the season, English football’s second division remains incredibly tight at both ends of the table with just a single point seeing a team jump several places. On that note, relegation candidates Birmingham will travel to the Macron Stadium to face a Bolton side also involved in the battle to avoid the drop.

For the hosts on Monday afternoon, after being promoted from League One last season, Bolton have struggled to replicate their form and a return to the third tier could still be on the cards. After 39 Championship games this season, Bolton have won just nine, drawing 12 and losing 18, conceding 58 and scoring 34 in return, Bolton boasts the third worst attacking statistics in the division. With a points tally of 39, they now sit in 20th position and hold a five-point advantage over the relegation zone. As for their recent form, Bolton will know the importance of picking up points from the teams around them as they now have only one win in their last six outings.

As for the visitors, after appointing former Leeds and Middlesbrough manager Gary Monk, Birmingham have begun to show signs of life and a late resurge has seen them stand a chance of extending their stay in the Championship. After 39 games this season, Birmingham have recorded 10 wins, six draws and 23 defeats, conceding 57 and scoring 29, like their hosts on Tuesday, Birmingham also boasts one of the worst defensive records in the league. With a points tally of 36, Birmingham are now sat in 21st, just a place and three points behind Bolton. As for their recent form, Monk will be impressed with the Blues recent improvements. After going on an eight-match losing run, Birmingham have now won their last two on the bounce without conceding a single goal in return.
