Barcelona forward Lionel Messi scored a fantastic brace against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night that now puts him top of the scoring charts in Europe. He finds himself above Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), and could now finish the season as the Golden Boot winner.

Prior to Wednesday’s fixture, Messi was without a goal in the latter stages, with his first eight goals having come in the group stages, so he’ll be delighted to have gotten off the mark again. And what a time to deliver, putting Barcelona in pole position to reach the final of the Champions League.

Messi has 10 goals in 11 games in the competition this season – one more than Ronaldo and Luiz Adriano, and three more than Carlos Tevez (Juventus) and Neymar (Barcelona).
