Barcelona’s Lionel Messi 3/4 to finally score against Atletico Madrid in title decider this afternoon

Posted May 17th, 2014 | By: Crippy Cooke

Competition: La Liga
Market: Messi to score anytime against Atletico
Odds: 3/4 @ Ladbrokes

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi will be hoping to end his hoodoo against Atletico Madrid when the two sides meet this afternoon in the La Liga title decider.

Messi, 26, has scored 28 goals in 30 league games this season, but hasn’t scored past Atletico in any of his five meetings against the side. He’s hoping that will change today as Barcelona need a win to seal the league title.

Ladbrokes are giving odds of 3/4 for Messi to score anytime, but the Madrid side won’t make it easy for him. Barca have scored just two goals in five against the Red and Whites this season, and have yet to beat them in 2013/14 in any competition.

But Messi is in fine league form of late. The Argentinean maestro has scored in 13 of his last 16 games in La Liga. He’s hoping Atletico suffer the same punishment in the biggest game of the season for both clubs.

With Atletico in the Champions League final to come, Barca and Messi will be hoping they could be distracted for today’s game.
