Atletico Madrid find themselves top of the Spanish La Liga near the mid-point of the season, and are taking advantage of Barcelona and Real Madrid’s inconsistency to currently rule the roost. Two points clear of Barca, Diego Simeone’s men look back to their best and have lost just once in the league since September.

The Rojiblancos boast the best defensive record in the league, and have picked up more points in the last two months than any other side. Barcelona have struggled of late due to a fixture pileup and a lack of necessary depth to rest their regularly playing stars, while Real have dipped in form considerably.

Looking defensively sound and having goals in the side, Simeone’s men have recovered from the loss of so many influential players from their successful 2013/14 campaign, and could well stun La Liga by toping the table again in May.
