Atletico Madrid host Villarreal at the Vicente Calderon in the Spanish La Liga tonight, and are big favourites to come out on top to cement their place in the top-three. Victory for the Rojiblancos would see them go six points clear of fourth-placed Sevilla, and their superior recent form should yield a win over Villarreal.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side are currently third in the Spanish La Liga table with 68 points from 33 games this season, coming off the back of five wins and a draw from their last half a dozen outings. Atletico have been formidable at home, boasting four consecutive wins at the Vicente Calderon, and should make light work of a Villarreal side suffering on the road of late.

As for the visitors, Villarreal find themselves fifth in the division with 57 points, having won three of their last four games. However, Villarreal haven’t maintained such form on the road, losing two of their last three outings, and could well come unstuck this evening as a result.
