Aston Villa are hoping they can finally avoid a cup upset against a lower league side this afternoon by seeing past Blackpool. The Midlands outfit have already lost to Leyton Orient at Villa Park in the second round Capital One Cup this season, but they will fancy their chances against a Blackpool side rooted to the foot of the second tier.

The Tangerines aren’t in good form either. They are winless in their last four games, but have picked up just one league victory from 13. Blackpool are the only side in the Championship without a win away from home, so Aston Villa are expected to deliver.

The Midlands club, managed by Paul Lambert, will introduce some younger faces to the starting eleven against Blackpool, but they will be boasting a side strong enough to get the job done. Ladbrokes are giving odds of 4/9 for the Villans to progress to the fourth round by seeing past Blackpool in the 90 minutes.

Last season, League One side Sheffield United beat Villa at Villa Park in the FA Cup third round, and in 2012/13, it was Millwall that knocked them out in the fourth round. Lambert has always said how seriously the players will be taking this afternoon’s meeting to ensure there’s no repeat.
