Aston Villa will be confident ahead of their trip to face Midlands rivals West Brom in their first real derby game of the season. Their meeting against Leicester City carried some animosity, due to Villa having appointed former Leicester favourite Martin O’Neill as their manager in the past, while transfers made between the two sides stoked up the anger down the years.

But this is the game neither club can afford to lose. The Villans have a decent track record too, having won one and drawn four of their last five meetings in the Premier League. West Brom have only beaten Paul Lambert’s side once in eight meetings at the Hawthorns, so the Claret and Blues will certainly fancy their chances.

Aston Villa are in much better form ahead of the derby clash too, unbeaten in their last five, while having enjoyed consecutive wins against Crystal Palace and Leicester City. West Brom, however, are without a win in five, while their only win at home came in September.
