AS Saint-Etienne 4/7 to win against AEK Athens in tonight’s Europa League qualifier
Competition: Europa League
Market: AS Saint-Etienne to win against AEK Athens
Odds: 4/7 @ William Hill
AS Saint-Etienne welcome AEK Athens to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard for the first leg of the third round of tonight’s Europa League qualifier, and are big favourites to come out on top to take an aggregate lead into the second leg at the Athens Olympic Stadium in August.
Saint-Etienne finished sixth in the French Ligue 1 last season and had a modest record on home soil (10 wins from 19 games). Their defensive record in their own backyard was one of the best in the league in 2015/16, and they boast good European pedigree in recent seasons.
After participating in the group stages of the Europa League in 2014/15, the French club made the last-32 last season, and will fancy their chances against opponents AEK Athens with how poor the Greek visitors had been on the road.
AEK finished third in the Greek Super League last season, but won just four of 15 away games, averaging less than one goal scored per game. They hadn’t made the group stages of the Europa League since 2011/12, and hadn’t progressed into the next round for almost a decade.
As a result, the visitors are underdogs to get a result at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard and William Hill giving odds of 4/7 for Saint-Etienne to come out on top.
