Ajax welcome Heerenveen to the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday afternoon in the Dutch Eredivisie, and the hosts are big favourites to come out on top given their superior form compared to that of the visitors. Victory for Ajax could see them go top of the table, confining Heerenveen to their fifth defeat in six.

Peter Bosz’s Ajax side are currently second in the Dutch Eredivisie with 72 points from 30 games this season, having won four of their last five ahead of Sunday’s meeting. Ajax have been formidable on home soil, boasting six consecutive wins at the Amsterdam ArenA, while winning 12 and drawing on their previous 13 in their own backyard.

As for the visitors, Heerenveen are eighth in the division with 40 points, coming off the back of four defeats from their last five games. Jurgen Streppel’s men have a woeful away record too, having suffered seven consecutive defeats on the road, and are expected to come unstuck with Ajax this weekend as a result.

With the chance to go top with a home win on Sunday. Ajax are in the driving seat to pick up all three points, and Heerenveen’s poor form on their travels could well cost them.
